A Dream Called Freedom

a dream called freedom

Freedom is utopia; freedom is a dream. An illusion. Or maybe not… maybe the last stage in a quest for freedom is death? the only solution, the only way to achieve it is by  fighting,  fighting for this dream. Maybe you  must die in the process, and when you die nobody will try to stop you any more.

So, do you only realize the greatest expression of that dream, so greatly desired, called “freedom”, only  after your death? Sorry to disappoint you, but you can’t reach it even in this case.

If you believe in an afterlife your soul will be eternally bound to be locked up in hell’s terrible prison, or in the sweet prison of heaven, and the body? Can the body now be described as ‘free’? Free to exist in its organic essence? Yes. Maybe eventually your body, your body at least will be ‘free’. Dead but free – until such time as you’re enclosed in a coffin, and deprived of freedom.

Is there freedom? Does it exist? Does it not exist? It’s a mystery. The only certainty is that there’ll be hope, as long as there are dreamers.

Heathcote Williams
