Why the Clooney-lunacy of ‘open debate’
when we know that Hollywood is weaker
than Hitler? Who, via Göring, would slake
the British Museum of its Grecian grandeur—
Nazi’s drooling blood from Senate House.
Say the facts of history are facts of intention,
that Göring echoes louder than the Parthenon,
or Elgin’s purse is worth nothing to the gods.
Georgie: restore the marble in your own head:
geography lies to us, like sleep, or falls away
lost on Athenian receipts that somehow pay
the price of antiquity. Property is not debated
by headless Greeks or pantheons of celebrity:
all treasures are built upon a culture looted.
