Pairs of old shoes

                        By the dozen,
                        Bare trees
                        In charcoal,
                        Pastel or oils
                        Are blossoming,
                        Vase after vase
                        Of sunflowers,
                        Stars, open blooms,
                        Float on the rising tide,
                        Waves that will drown
                        Weathercock and steeple,
                        A poplar tree’s black light
                        Flickering
