“An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.” (Mahatma Gandhi)
For Lorenza (and her dead son)
(Or Spanish Eugenics)
We must murder the matador’s mum!
She gave birth to a blood-thirsty son!
Already bereft, she must have nothing left,
To create such a terrible one.
We must murder the matador’s mother!
Her son’s vanity failed to see brother!
He threw sword and sharp knife, so keen to end life,
With a heart hard as stone for another.
We must murder the matador’s mummy!
To revenge the poor bull who speared tummy!
That killer by trade, was not by heaven made,
And a bull is much more than a ‘dummy.’
We must murder the matador’s dame!
To stop fruit that will one day just maim!
His pleasure was torture, now in the Hereafter;
His excuses good God will deem lame.
We must murder the matador’s mam!
Let the Devil her sadist son damn!
To torment young bulls trashes all humane rules;
We are meant to be kind – soft as lamb.
