THE HATE EXPEDIENT

Break them into atoms
and watch them fizz.

These little millions
in hollowed-out towns

(warring with their own
and misdirected)

are grubby fodder
for the hate expedient.

Wind them up and watch them go:
now a man cuts a mother’s throat.
