Under their Thumb

Impossible maps;
States with gaps in their borders;
Edges that don’t join.

Paradox nations;
Armys at war with themselves;
Friendly gunshot wounds.

A failed state has not
Coward its citizens. A shame
To have failed at shame.

A successful state
Has it all under its thumb,
Last time it dared look.

Freedom does not come
In penny packets. You get
It all or none.
