debating on high
a perpetual motion
and all of them shot
up into the heavens
by his gunpowder plot

the misrule and vainglory
of land-owning heirs
who passed laws for the lawless
who weighed-down the weak
forbade freedom of thought
and the freedom to speak
yes Guy Fawkes is the guy
who gets my nomination
yet whose life is remembered
not by celebration
but instead is the blaze
of annual cremation

The gunpowder Plot was a damp squib but the Government decreed
that Guy Fawkes’ execution must be remembered annually.
I understand this act has never been repealed.
