it’s only my opinion but I think
always being next in line for the throne
when there are so many other people
waiting for the chance is terribly selfish
and if William stepped aside for someone
northern, for example, with fewer inherited
privileges, it would send a message
to the rest of us who are queuing
at the bus stop (not to give up hope, etc.)
it doesn’t have to be me
or anyone else from Hyde specifically
but we’ve done enough (for very little
reward) to deserve the job on merit
we have the skills and understanding
some of us are home helps, others
work as nurses. There’s the woman
in the Meschia’s van I remember
from my childhood. I realise she’s
Italian, but she used to drizzle two
types of sauce onto ice cream as
a reward for asking nicely. Another
candidate would be that man
who used to cut spare keys
and wrote my dog’s address
in beautiful cursive script
on a lozenge for her collar
there’s nothing wrong with dreaming
