the word sits up to be noticed. watch as it unwinds itself. unfolds.
from nothing. not so much as a fact. from a featureless waste.
watch as it flowers of a sudden. and fades. falls away.
as it sways this way and that. withdraws. at one with the wind.
and listen as the wind allows. to the white space of the page. the print.
it made. handmaid to the emptiness. listen to it bending to be heard.
bowing to the ear. whispering into every corner of the mind. listen.
to the life of it. while it lasts. to the last particle. the endless stir.
the slightest dust of it. speck. mote. melting flake of it. falling snow.
the merest smear. as near to eclipse as the ear can hear. as the call to it.
as cold to the lips it comes to. as balm. salve. sounding. as to the hum.
of the world that underlies it. lies beyond it. barely audible.
insists in being. baring itself. in spite of the cold it breathes. in.
the breath of air it emits. out. a world of its own wandering.
now weary. now as new. as if new. as if a once and forever. a never.
ever to be repeated. in or out of order. in waves of its own making.
whatever works. to wake it. whatever summons it to the ear. near to.
what speaks. in the wilderness from where. to the harbouring here.
