ESCAPE VELOCITY

When taking off
it is desirable to get
as much acceleration
as possible to work up
the necessary speed
without burning up.

And what about air?
A man in a spacesuit
will have to carry his
own breathing air in
some kind of container.
He will need a lot of it

and also some means
of communication
with other members
of the crew. Then
there is the question
of gloves and tools.

Weightlessness may
produce some effects
we do not know about
and human bodies
may take it pretty badly
or not stand the strain.

When whirling around
someone else’s head
ideas are impossible
to understand. The
expense of training
is also a problem,

along with the fact
that wings are useless
in space. But weight
will not be a problem
and spaceships will
be a different kind

of machine, built
to keep us safe
and protect us from
punctures or aliens
we might meet in
the depths of space.
