When you wish upon a star
You must be fully mindful
That it’s not the way things are.
I don’t mean to be unkind. Full
Of tortured gas and energy
It’s the ghost of a distant past
Not a herald of future synergy.
And even then, it was just
An idealised ball of confusion
Worn threads across time that we use to create
Constellations to feed our delusion
That they somehow can foretell our fate.
But you won’t see your tale written grand in night skies.
Just take hold of warm hands and look into bright eyes.
