In these reflexive moments I’m gripped fast
by a sort of terror, that at last
the trivial horror of who I was
shall be revealed, and just because
I didn’t take those needed steps of self erasure
to prevent such accidental shocks arising from exposure.
I really don’t want my personal obsessions
exposed, like I don’t want my possessions
rummaged through, or forgotten conversations
repeated over exclamations
of wonder, surprise, disgust or disbelief.
But I can reflect, with a sigh of relief
that the chastening truth is that most of the time
all the stuff I got up to was not worth a dime..
