a clandestine gospel

when god was dead
seafoam brushing off
the blue
from your gouged bones

my dreams
glittered
in desire
again
warped
the
fugue
of longing
plenitude
of death

backwards
in the river

how to love you
i asked
or was it you
across the stained glass

the dispossessed heart
pulled out
in blue
like
a songbird
face down
in His kindness
to refine a
prayer
telling the sun
not to rise
