Apologies

Our daughter learns
the power of an apology
and that she can
get away with almost
everything after a lowkey ‘sorry’.

I wave the torn book
on Galileo, show the bold Suns
she has drawn on its pages.
She says that it was mistake.

I sigh. The blind sky
sweeps the fallen leaves from our roof
with a stroke of wind.
