Back to the Nursery: couplets against cruelty. For all turkeys…

Turkeys are truly incredible;
they were never meant to be ‘edible’!

Turkeys are friendly and kind;
they have generous hearts and sharp minds.

Turkeys are loving and curious;
their killing for ‘meat’ makes me furious.

To be murdered, and turned to bowel fodder?

This evil makes activists shudder!

Killing babies1 is cruel, and insane –
making death of young life, pain for gain?

Turkeys are lively and bright;
Man’s ‘farming’ brings fear, dread and fright.

Their dark sheds are Hell on this earth!
For a meal-time of feasting and mirth?

Few get to meet them eye to eye;
if you knew what they suffered, you’d cry…

All turkeys deserve to survive;
live their God-given lives, stay alive!

Please save turkeys this ‘Season’ as friends;
we humans must make great amends!

Pay the ‘farmers’…and take them away!
Let them know the pleasure of day.

1 Turkeys have a natural life-span of 12 years. Most ‘factory-farmed’ turkeys are killed when they are just 12 weeks old. 515 million turkeys die globally (and horrifically) every year: each one is a sentient, sapient being.

One Response to Back to the Nursery: couplets against cruelty. For all turkeys…

    1. Thanks for posting, Claire. There are so many nonviolent alternatives these days. It’s incredibly upsetting to think about what has happened/is happening to all those young turkeys. So much death and suffering, for a couple of hours of ‘celebrating.’
