Death of an Anarchist

                                           (For Tony Rogers)

Closing time,

back to his,
he rolls a joint.
We talk of how we were obsessed with Led Zeppelin
And read Hermann Hesse and Doris Lessing
when we were young
before we knew each other.
We watch on screen the Dario Fo play –
Accidental Death of an Anarchist.

Then, at a poetry event,
he, to the audience refers to himself
as an anarchist
before reciting his poem –
What is Anarchy?
Didn’t think then that months later,
at seventy-two, he would be gone
that all too soon there would be
another death of an anarchist.
