(For Ridley Scott)
I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Car tyres on fire in Soweto. I watched the sea glitter with luminescence in the dark near Jamaica. I missed the green flash of the setting sun in Key West, Sri Lanka but caught it in the Red Sea. I saw Montserrat erupting huge clouds of dust and smoke sitting in a circling helicopter, with lava creeping down the mountain sides to quench itself SHHhhhhhshshsss!!! in the Sea. I’ve swum up close with 10-foot sharks and right in the middle of a school of 100 dolphins and 1000 barracuda. I caught the fleeting smiles and haunting eyes of beautiful girls across the crowded Witches Cauldron that thrill me still. I saw the Mona Lisa, Notre Dame and William Burroughs stepping out of the Beat Hotel in Paris in the 1960s. The Beatles performing in Finsbury Park Astoria 1964 to the screams of teens who are now pensioners. Jimi Hendrix shooting fire from his guitar at Alexandra Palace. Pathan tribesmen making hot wheels of hash chanting all night in smoky huts in Afghanistan. I’ve seen the Golden Absolute full of light, warmth and love in meditation and on acid. All those moments will be lost in time, like… tears in rain. Time to try to set the Earth right before everybody’s memories, including mine, are flushed away forever!
