MISUNDERSTOOD

i.m. Jesus Jellet and Stanley Green

I was the Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Pink Floyd.
I was the piper in Stairway to Heaven. Led Zeppelin.
said Jesus, in a rare missive. Music was a universal
way of communication for him, because we have
no brain only a mind that is half misunderstanding
and half understanding. Stanley misunderstood
desire, wanted LESS LUST in the world, which meant
LESS PROTEIN:    MEAT    FISH    BIRD    CHEESE    EGG
PEAS   BEANS   LENTILS   AND SITTING. He called this
Protein Wisdom; you could buy a booklet from him
on Oxford Street, where he paraded with his sign.

Jesus spent Sundays at Speakers Corner, summers
at festivals, evenings at concerts. I’ve seen him
dance to jazz-rock, punk and on the sloping stage
at a film premiere. His bag was full of percussion
which, on a good day, he shared with those around
him so everyone could join in, get into the groove.
He saw emotions as colours, believed We are all
the same age, are born to grow here from all over
the universe, never wanted to be Jesus reincarnated.
Stanley lived on soup and cycled to work each day.
Jesus took the train. Stanley and Jesus never met.
