it’s in that contort & that raised voice
that I start to wonder about the extent
of the difference in how we live in
each other’s heads: how we
mutate in the small air between us.
well, I could talk about the noumenon,
about categories of intuition & the
organisational process of sensory perceptions,
but once I had a splendid & powerful dog
who, on an ice-encrusted beach,
picked up a jetsam tyre in his jaws
& carried it for hours, all the while
the stub of his docked tail
like the tiniest flagpole, upright with pride
