Stories we tell

the stories we tell

are built like a stone wall

layer by slow layer

unforgiving edges

marking out

the place

we stood

raising a defiance

against decay

callousing our hands

so that we do not forget

the weight and heft

the grain and depth

how everything

depends on everything else

when we grip entropy
