what if all the wasps
of the world
decided to sting
each other to death
what if all the busy bees
tried to follow suit
taking their their cue
from humans beings
rather than worldly wasps
what if all the hateful hornets
decided against collective suicide
and sheathed their stings instead
what if this news was leaked
to The Daily Mail
what if all its Reform readers
sensed a left-wing plot
fostered by the blessed BBC
what if poets like this one
added to all this nonsense
by trying to turn it into verse
and succeeded only
in further stirring
the poetic pot – or plot
what if it would be
a good thing
if poets great and small
bothered their brainless brains
with something
a tad more Important
better still what if
some of them
swore a vow of silence
and if this happened what then?
after all a fashionable poet
of the 30s wrote
‘Poetry makes nothing happen’
and nothing did
it seems….
