ALWAYS SLIGHTLY OUT OF FOCUS

Did you notice the inconspicuous detective
who has been trained to nonchalantly lurk
on corners without arousing any suspicion,
which is why he has a newspaper and hat?

Will anyone notice the upside down paper
contains last week’s news or how long he
has been there? I don’t think so, he is
trained in these matters and is adept

at diverting attention away from himself.
Look how he flaps both arms at his friend
and says he is working, see how his boots
stick out from under his casual clothing.

He is casing the joint, hoping to catch
crooks at work when they deliver goods
they have stolen to the shop he stands
across the road from, does not know

there is a back door and the drop was
early this morning, is done and dusted.
Because he does not know, he still lurks
inconspicuously, as he is trained to do.
