CHILD

Suddenly the window across
The way lights up or suddenly
I realize it’s lit up today we
Have been out in the countryside
Looking for wild flowers but
We found none it was the wrong
Countryside or we were
Looking in the wrong place the
People in the house across
The way would never have
Made the same mistake they
Would not have gone looking
For wild flowers in the first
Place or maybe they would
It’s difficult to be right
All the time one moment I’m sure
The next moment it’s a different
Moment and I’m all over the
Place this is a not uncommon
And therefore a very boring
Condition to be in and nothing
To write home about I would
Change it with pleasure I think
That to say this is charming
And honest to a degree hitherto
Unimagined or at least rarely
Encountered anyway about
That house across the way
It has two people in it three
If you count the child but
I do not count the child
