.

a letter out of the blue
a name almost forgotten
sends words from whose past?
his or hers?
not that it matters
or maybe it does
an unremarkable face perhaps
an anonymous voice
she’s bothered to write though
for whatever reason
she’s remembered him
it brightens his day
the sun gleams more brightly
through the window

it’s so touching
to be remembered
even by somebody
he can hardly recall
an unconsidered kindness
confirmed by this
unexpected sun
human kindness is overflowing
a favourite song says
and reminds him
that he’d woken up
desolately saying to himself
and I think it’s going
to rain today*
