you bought me a plate with a wolf on it
a cereal bowl with an owl
a dish with an octopus in which I stored paperclips
a crab in perspex
a seahorse on a tumbler
a leopard on a baseball cap
dolphins on a shower curtain &
a small plastic whale
I wonder where those things are now, like
landfill, charity shop or still up on the walls
& in the cupboards or on the shelves &
I wonder if you cry when you look at them
or touch them & are reminded of moments
in a system built to fail
& all of this
because
you know how fond I am of animals
