HOME

I look for ghosts
in the odd corner
and infrequent
intersections of
hallway and natural light.

She remembered
every pantomimed moment
as language dropped off
and posture became
the lingua Franca.

The house has
large eyes half drawn
shades making
for a drowsy twilight day in August.

It’s a wonder
to sit in a room
for hours
and travel the galaxy
with an armchair
to sink into
near beer and chips
on the control panel.

She said my name
without turning her head
her daughter were
in the common area
playing tag as she watched
from the balcony window.

She said my name again
as crows sang
and aircraft
pushed through the clouds.
