Light in the Land of Plenty

So much is hidden in plain sight today:
tax returns, the dossier
that contains a thousand lies, while
iridescent feathers in first
light just a breath away display
a mid-air glow. There’s something someone
somewhere doesn’t
want anyone to know: the secret
at the heart of every
other secret, the one the universe
keeps to itself about
how it came to be. Lawyers argue daily
over whether it was God
or an explosion
that set in motion the chain of events
leading through steam, swamp and lava flow
to the advent of language
which in turn has evolved
to deny the undeniable
even in the same light of day that sparks
a hummingbird’s gorget.
