New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve
And the man who was You Boy
Walks straight backed steady
Out of the pub well before Midnight
So he’s spared the Auld Lang Syne,
Has only one thing in mind:
To go back
So he walks between lopsided gateposts

Ignores a DUE FOR DEMOLITION sign,
Scans the moonlit schoolyard,
Stoops
Selecting a stone
Then it’s arm back
Take a run up
Throw stoop throw again again again

And pane after pane after pain
Shatters.
