After Violette Leduc
Don’t crack almonds
with a hammer
skim the beer foam
ribbons & incense
shelter & the nest
a weakness for
candles in a church
The tap of the metal
curtain sounds like
field animals chewing
The lanes are sad
thicket humming
talk of flower beds
during heatwave
pull up the gangplank
make a house
from a wool blanket
The gate’s squeak
is a comfort does it
continue in our absence?
Baguette is fresh
the city is fogged in
glide like floating wood
lay on waves on mountains
take to the brambles
search for fruit
talk of canopy
there go the sparrows
nothingness is soothing
blackbird compels
attention
harvest wheat rye
vigilant in the fields
blackbird clearing space
Muted blue & years of sorrow
attraction of Post Offices
field of experience
everything is ravished at
one o’clock in the afternoon
station garden trees as sonnets
a slow river sound
the sun as destroyer
the shade as reason
branch tremble after
the oriole takes flight
Tap of screen with an
increasing breeze
unexpected rhythm
Bleak lighting
remnants of dust
voices in an empty church
‘Father Son’ crescendo
.
