The Benign Aspect

There are sometimes things we’d rather not know
Would rather disregard or neglect
For instance that monopoly
Is much more efficient than choice
Getting just what you want
Might be at a premium
A complex market structure
Pay more if you want to get more
Taking more off of the top
Brings down the specification
Equally for all that democracy can accomplish
In times of stress the barriers may shift
Nothing unites like a common purpose
Rally round the flag
First man on the moon
Fools to make war on our brothers in arms
But if there is a major hazard now
It might be the cruel side of nature
Jeopardising crops, minerals, habitability
What is it that makes me wonder
That you are not in this place quite out of choice
We mythologise the stuff of nature
Roughly into what we cherish and sustain
As against those things we fear,
Like the perfect storm
There is all the difference in the world
Between days of plenty and being relaxed
As opposed to mobilised and at arms
Did he not say we have to deal with this
And we are working against time
We might be in fear more than we’d wish
For every Vishnu, the preserver
There is a Shiva that destroys
Took my journey up the river
Arriving at blood sacrifice
What must we do and offer
For safe passage and arrival
Went the day well?
