The Muses Blues

I stand here watching you play

I expand as you play your guitar;
shocked by your discipline
your purity and sound.

The muses stand in your shadow,
hanging around you like friends

I almost remember, but then I forget,
and drown in the sound of your set.

You shine under iridescent lights,
your fingers so graceful and long.
The muses have gathered around you,
willing you on to your song.

They’re always in your orbit
Or larking about in the crowd

I almost remember my own song,
forgetting that I’m still around.

Come back my muses
you’ve been gone far too long.
Come back my muses
Return my own sweet song.
