PLUMB

One has to say this
is a first class tap, the kitchen looks & feels
so much better now, & the water flows
naturally. A cup of tea is an apt offering.

That’s a decent start, said Trixie.
What’s next? Although (she added)
perhaps it would be pertinent here to mention
how sometimes it’s a good idea to start over,
like, for example, I’d live my life over again
     if I could (in italics).

The birds in the trees uttered their song –
it was a tad on the plaintive side.
I don’t know what kind of birds they were.

Making use of the new tap
I filled the kettle and put it on to boil.

Where I come from this is Step 1 in making tea.
And I admire Trixie: she has what it takes

to be the kind of woman I desire.

I feel a cliché coming on, she said.

The birds in the trees etc.
as the water boiled as is its wont and you know
     the rest:
I served tea; Trixie declined sugar.
I suggested we go upstairs and romp a while.
She declined that, too, and went home.

But I am happy today:
this is certainly a first class tap: the plumber
     came this morning
and replaced the old one, which was dripping.
