Superstitions in the Future

A certain number of commas in any book
will bring bad luck to the book’s
owner, and therefore
there will be a warning on the back of such books

that one should buy it only aware of the risk,
the peril, and agree in advance not to sue
the bookstore or publisher or author.
That is assuming that in the future

there will be readers.
Another possible superstition I shall now
predict
is that uttering the word “trump”

in any context
will bring the person who said the word
aloud
bad luck for a decade, if the person

even survives. Yes, in games of
bridge and other games
there will need to be one or more
synonyms, but people in the future

will be much more intelligent, which is
why
the word “trump” will be known
to be so catastrophic.
