A SADLY DATED POEM

I never meant to write this
But hey, it’s 1977

It’s what I know was happening

Your breasts in that t-shirt
Endorsing Debbie Harry
Were pretty much perfection

I never liked bosoms bouncing
Bouncing about in structures

They made me feel

Sexist. You know what I’m saying?

I met Johnny Rotten
The Ramones and young Joe Strummer

The Clash at a party
Bits of two Dead Kennedys

I was doing security
Confiscating Hippies

Before the music started

One Response to A SADLY DATED POEM

    1. I like this a lot, perfectly punk and of its time. This is what I wrote after Sid Vicious died:

      AN ACT YOU CAN’T FOLLOW

The newspaper is folded four ways,
      neat squares
      of partial print
      and part of photograph
      of someone
      in a strange haircut
      still in bed
      under a headline reading
      “DEAD”.
