A STORY {that deserves to be a poem}

Charles Cajori

(a second generation
Abstract Expressionist)

Was chatting with Bill de Kooning
On Tenth Street in New York
When they were approached
By a drunk asking them for money

Bill gave the guy a few coins
And they watched him
Stumble across Third Avenue
Zig-zagging between the cars

“Now there’s a man
who understands space,” Bill observed
