As Above, So Below

The hum in my head says
what I can hardly interpret.
I, a grasshopper, a thought
and a part of what quivers
within together from a leaf of lotus,
foretell rain, albeit you, too absent
everywhere you go, will not know
rain when it pours.
You see the darkness. You feel wet.
You see the shade of your umbrella,
gasoline on water, mud rising in swirls
in the puddles, smell the petrichor,
hear the silence of the crickets and
then a sudden encore, see the coat
of a cat stuck to its skin, and yet
you will not know rain, see me
standing beside you under the lamp.
