– I had a very nice chicken kiev for my dinner yesterday.
– Oh.
– Yes. It was from Aldi. It was very tasty.
– I have always been disappointed by chicken kievs. There’s never much chicken and the promised tasty flavourings and what-have-you are usually not much more than a rumour.
– Until yesterday I would have agreed with you, but this one was a substantial chunk of chicken breast, sourdough-breaded with a generous hint of wild garlic. It was very flavoursome.
– Should we be pronouncing the name differently now, on account of the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022 at which time we found out that Kiev was now Kyiv and we’d been pronouncing it wrong for decades?
– I don’t know. It didn’t say anything about that on the packaging.
– I’d call that an oversight.
– It’s probably not important.
– Probably not.
