it’s easy
when there are
plenty of branches
to hold on to
close to the foot of it
that carry on
all the way up
to the top
not so close together
that you have to
squeeze between them
and who can resist?
(not me it brings out
the child in you
which is a good thing)
and while you’re climbing
there’s no time to think
about anything else
like the price of everything
that (like yourself) is
going up or the wars
and the refugees
and the politicians
who don’t give a fuck
about refugees
(any more than they do
about trees
and who’d only climb one
or (more likely)
plant one
if they thought
there were votes in it)
and when you finally
get to the top
you can see for miles
