Crossroads

As far as I can see; the vanishing trail
Jumbled words, shrouded figures, quietly walking
Drifting shapes, I stretch my arms out to touch
There, faint sounds, footsteps behind the rising wind

I cup my hand around my ear
Strain to hear what they are saying
Raindrops, then a deluge clears the mist
Thunder shatters the words I had for you

Jagged flashes of light, stark stick figures leap out
Branches swing; gesturing trees are creatures talking
Crouching bushes protect me, I’m safe on this path
I walk to the forest edge, come to a crossroads

Look! A sign. Compass points. North West South East
Let me choose the way I want to go!
