later on the clouds dispersed
silently (the way they do) revealing
the mountain-tops though visible
only as silhouettes
against the star-light
proof if it were needed that
they were there all along as
we picked our way gently rising
among the stones along the river-bank
the hills on both sides invisible

MOUNT FUJI
You can walk around neoliberal economics
and grow things on your allotment, shop ethically,
use local suppliers wherever possible, recycle
and donate to foodbanks, avoid Israeli products
and leave (only) the faintest of carbon footprints
but you can’t pretend there’s no such shape as
Mount Fuji in Japanese landscape paintings
