from on high the gesture
slipped ragged into textiles
new weights and social mores
templates from the prison
laughter etched into memory shops
& the ragged refrain etched
on the brow of last year’s
hymns the mighty stagger cut
throat into embassies cool remarks
the bitter dregs of european folly its
soviet corpuscle blood ire risen to
borders of their darkening incomprehensible
dance the rabid time clear-shorn from
the bone its time a gentle reminder
of all those dreams now carted into towns
and left as if to rot as new flesh hope.
