The world I wake to is peaceful and calm.
Light warmed by October trees floods in through
the windows. All seems well and safe, and yet
we know that we are not clear of the chaos.
Asked to believe too many things,
we end up believing nothing.
Has truth ever counted for so little,
have lies ever loomed so powerful?
We are experiencing a slow-motion
national nervous breakdown. A madness
worse than hurricanes is making landfall.
What shall be our path through this danger?
A reluctance to judge. A willingness
to share. Kindness toward the stranger. A vow
to leave lying on the ground any stone
the dictator says to throw at another.
