Many hungry birds ignore white baneberries despite their visual charisma. But there are always creatures immune to poison—other birds eat the berries, help disperse the seeds, and cause the toxic plants to proliferate. Their blossoms of black-dotted circles evoke plastic instead of nature, reminding that existence encompasses abnormalities. It’s futile to consider, If all flowers possessed integrity, all flowers would be beautiful. Once, a lover raised a fist before my face—throughout the ensuing overlong movie starring my ripening body, the lover’s expression remained bored as if the action and its effects are normal.
