Rhythms of Dismay

the parting shot
on ambulances of desire
from labour lords to sink estates
the chain of command grips a nation
in waiting for its hero alliances
those who smashed the records for
partying hard into the night and jockeyed
out the requiems in tablets of stone
faced civil servants who far from civil
list attributes now fallen into disarray
while onlookers dance rhythms of dismay.
