Varieties of love are always offered
Simply to taste as you choose –
As simple or extravagant
As items and varieties of food –
The rich of course can afford
To adorn both couch and trestle as they please –
To stage an entertainment is the thing!
Impressing the provincial
Visiting official – Oh just see
How the other half lives…
The gods alone know how
Such Empire ‘jobsworths’ celebrate at home
But tell me what you think
Of this ‘Death Cult’ as I call them –
Who speak of a ‘risen’ body
Having life beyond the grave?
Have you ever suffered love
That entraps you
To a verdict such as theirs?
Pitting a promise of paradise
Against a sordid public execution?
