strata

how i loved the moon
how i loved the storied stars
how i missed the world after us

our buildings to ruin
our temples to long passed gods
our bones to dust to fossil

oblivion stands beside me
the extinction of our species
is ever here and now

i step out of my rooms
and into the scrappy garden
spread myself on anaemic grass

so silent here
so radiant
in fevered nowhere

hear the teeth-knock of shivering stars
the flash and fade of galaxies colliding
i move to a deeper rhythm

in the eyes of nature
in this broken eden
in the scum and scuzz of

stars washed ashore
i lie until the rain comes in
i lie until the sun is cinder
