The Wall Smells of Ocean

– Do you see the girl on the wall,
walking on her toes
with one streak of the dusk light
as a balance on her shoulder?

– Yes, I do. Sorry to disappoint you,
but she is no ghost.

– Just because two people see something
it does not become real.

I shiver. I lied. I see no girl. Gloaming,
and the triangular tips
of the fishing village, and a tree lit up
half and half by the drowning sun
and the street lights,
I see all these, and breeze between the leaves.
