ducking, diving, failing, trying,
bumbling, fumbling, stumbling, crumbling,
“tickets please, all aboard the merry-go-round!”
a life in motion,
the noise, the commotion—
inhale… exhale… aaahhhh—
acceptance is key.
no need for resistance,
set your inner zen free!
losing ground, losing face,
confidence found—
knocked back down.
pick yourself up,
dust yourself down—
onwards and upwards,
the sky’s the limit…
flying high by the seat of your pants,
living it large,
keeping it real,
true to oneself—
whatever the deal.
now back in the proverbial trusted saddle,
then up shit creek without a paddle.
out to lunch,
then safe and sound—
a new direction,
motivation found:
“I’m moving on up, ♫
moving on out,
time to set free,
nothing can stop me, yeeeeah.”
“Moving on up”, M People (1993)
achievements, bereavements,
love, and loss.
ambition, fruition,
ailments, derailments…
from silent battles
to public displays,
ever-changing roles
cast upon the “stage”—
no handbook, script, manual, or map,
just living and learning with each mishap.
in times of faith,
and those of none—
it’s mind over matter
that gets things done.
not forgetting those creature comforts
to add to the brew.
cake, cats, companions too—
a dose of each will certainly see you through.
tears, fears, hopes, and dreams,
pocketfuls of ambition
come apart at the seams.
hit rock bottom,
then on cloud nine.
from nowhere to somewhere,
it’s just a question of time.
but just remember, fellow humans—
as it currently stands,
the course of one’s path
is simply out of one’s hands, for
“life is what happens
when we’re busy making other plans.”
(John Lennon, 1980)
