BALMORAL

I express my opinions fiercely
Bellicose and brutal, tantamount to treason
Insulting to the table. Northern
And peppered with profanities

Also ignorant, on occasion

I don’t know where Dundee is
Except that it’s in Scotland. I believe
The French philosophers
Are cleverer than the English

I can’t drive or fly an aeroplane
My nursing skills are useless. There
Are categories of kindness, love
Declared in error, untruthful

At the centre of my being

I wish the dead were living
The living no longer with us. I eat
My food America, the knife
Then fork. I carry the threat of violence

You knew this when you asked me

Balmoral is where the Queen goes
When she wants to kill things
