Father’s Portrait

A few feet below the billowing portrait

of his father he shifts his weight.

In the room adjacent, the hum of the guests

bristles the strands of memory and silence.

He murmurs (tells himself – “All is uttered by subconscious”),

“Finally I become man.”

I hear him, see the teardrop pregnant with light

poured through the French window.

Future blooms as some florets in their family yard.

Future clouds the sky from the ear of the north.
